Upon the invitation of departure around 40 high-ranking protagonists from various artistic and cultural fields will gather in the Vienna Odeon from 11th to 13th of March. Within the framework of a symposium they will discuss and negotiate the thinking and working in between the disciplines, in a cultural arena increasingly hybridized.

This year again the James Dyson Foundation supports innovative projects from young problem solvers and from 2.2. until 1.7.2010 calls for entries for this year’s James Dyson Award. Projects from 18 countries including Austria will be participating and another fruitful cooperation with VIENNA DESIGN WEEK in October ist to follow.

With a call for ideas the Creative Industries Styria agency launches a project towards the settlement of businesses from the fields of the creative industries in the Graz Jakomini quarter. The competition will serve as a basis for the upcoming urban renewal process in the area and will award prizes for the best entries.

On December 16th those involved in VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2009 came together for a very special evening to celebrate the success of Austrias biggest design event and for one more night create some more festival-atmosphere...

From October 1 to 11 an ever more colourful and dense programme offering cheerful celebrations, outstanding displays and wholehearted talks drew around 22.000 designthirsty people to over 80 events at over 50 locations.

In a time of economic upheaval and rapid social change design will have an outstanding role in the future. Vienna as an important young design location can make a substantial contribution to this. An ideas competition jointly organised by MAK and departure asks for future design strategies. Project proposals can be sent until January 15, 2010.

On Friday October 9th the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Talks will be discussing the topic of “innovation through and with design”. Invited guests from the fields of design, design research and business on this morning will be focusing on design and innovation processes and how they interrelate. Reservations for the talks at Pratersauna Wien can still be made.

Like last year, the newspaper “die Presse”, media partner of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, is hosting a design blog with daily fresh news from the festival. In addition, the best project from VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Debut can be elected via online-voting. And certainly a prize can be won here, too!

With a grand opening event on the evening of September 30th, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK celebrated it’s third “edition”. On the invitation of Neigungsgruppe Design as well as H.O.M.E, around 1500 guests appeared ready to celebrate the start of ten days densely packed with great design events.

More and more creatives, initiatives and shop owners are visibly motivated to use the enhanced awareness for design during VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and organize parallel events, therefore enriching the dense design landscape of the city during the festival. Yes please!

On June 24th around 70 journalists and festival partners joined the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Press-Aperitif at Hollmann Theater Salon to witness the first presentation of this year’s festival program by the Neigungsgruppe Design.

On June 24 the initiators of VIENNA DESGN WEEK presented the publication “Design, beispielhaft”. This Best-Practice-Study, which was realized thanks to the support of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, undertakes a first evaluation of the Viennese design festival.

The exhibition REAL-WORLD LABORATORY - CENTRAL EUROPEAN DESIGN, produced for the DesignBiennale St. Etienne 2008 will be shown at freiraum/quartier21 international in Vienna and will feature a fine Austrian contribution.

From June 3 to 7, three designers successfully acted as forerunners of the Viennese design festival by showcasing experimental Austrian design projects in Berlin. Two Viennese design studios received DMY Awards.

The international James Dyson Award in cooperation with the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK calls for entrys from young designers studying or working in Austria.
