Why Design? - Konstantin Grcic (DE)

Konstantin Grcic

9.10.2010, 7pm–8pm

A) "Why not!"
B) "Because it´s a job."
C) "Because design matters."

Konstantin Grcic (b. Munich, 1965) trained to be a cabinet maker at Parnham College, England, later studying industrial design at the Royal College of Art, London. He founded his studio, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID), in 1991. He has made a name for himself in various areas as a versatile designer – furniture, industrial, and exhibition design and architectural projects. KGID works with leading companies in the international design industry.
Many of Grcic’s products have been awarded international design awards and are on show in the foremost museums in the world. In 2005, Phaidon Press in London published a comprehensive monograph of his oeuvre.
Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining aesthetic strictness with great mental acuity. All his work is characterised by careful research into the history of design and architecture and his love of technology and materials. Known for his pared-down pieces, Grcic has often been labelled a minimalist, but the designer himself prefers to speak of ‘simplicity’.
