50 YEARS MET CHANDELIERS + UFOS

LOBMEYR, KIM+HEEP

30.9.–8.10.2016

Design from outer space. Scintillating luminaires in two different series adorned the J. & L. Lobmeyr showroom this year – and continue to beam out in full radiance there. Fifty years after its premiere at the opening of the Metropolitan Opera New York, J. & L. Lobmeyr presented what was on one hand the largest chandelier group ever made since then in the groundbreaking design by Hans Harald Rath – a cascade of exploding stars. On the other, the luminous UFOs of
the design duo Kim+Heep prepared for landing for the very first time. By the way, just as Kim+Heep presented their idea, NASA scientists found glass on Mars for the first time. It was very much the same situation in 1966, when the big bang theory was hot off the press, coinciding with the presentation of the galaxy-like chandeliers for the Met. Another evening with Lobmeyr on Kärntner Straße –
in the festival period something like an extended living room.
