SITZFLÄCHE

Not far from Reindorfgasse, the artist Sabine Heine created a permanent space for art and encounter: Since 2009, SITZFLÄCHE has enjoyed the status of being an institution in the neighborhood, a showroom for design chairs and simultaneously platform for social interaction, making seating options into places of encounter, even in the public space. Having observed that seating opportunities – and thus places of communication – are often lacking in the public space, in 2015, Heine together with the artist Ralf Henne conceived the Gelbe Bank (Yellow Bench). With concerts, dance events, and magician shows in the summer months of 2016, it became a meeting place for senior citizens and children, whose needs are often neglected in the public space.
