window gallery mischer'traxler, Opening Sept. 4
After their studies at the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven, Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler founded their joint studio [more] in 2009.
mischer'traxler have been given numerous awards, such as the pathbreaking "Designer of the future Award 2011 by Design Miami/Basel" and the "BE-Open - Young Talent Award". They are counted among the outstanding young design talents based in Vienna.
Balancing between hand craft and technology, mischer'traxler envisions whole systems, processes and new production methods that indicate sustainability and the relevance of nature. Part of their Design process is to examine, experiment, analyse and reject. This critical view often questions and affects the relation between producer, object and owner. "Why and what for" are often the main concerns before a new project comes into being, whilst "What if" ceases in new interpretations and different possibilities. Their Results often make use of unexpected materials and are often characterized by external inputs, for example the condition of the weather or the usage of the existing.
The installation, that will be shown at the window gallery of the Vienna Design Office at stilwerk Vienna, splits the room in two mirrored halfs and shows various projects of the studio.
Some of the chosen objects stand out due to their uniqueness within their serie. They are similar to each other, but are still unique. And yet other objects are entirely alike. mischer'traxler use, in a subtle way, a reflecting surface to indicate similarities and differencies.
Only the exact observation makes similarities and differences noticeable. It's about the individual objects, but also about the interaction of the individual objects within the installation.
SIMILARLY UNIQUE by mischer'traxler

Exhibition on view
Louisa Köber welcomes the summer with her exhibition `Sommerfarben´. (Colours of the summer)
A range of products will be shown, that was designed around the pleasure and effect of colours.
In the working process Louisa Köber combines functional requirements with charming [more] and novel solutions. Those solutions are characterised by an implicitness, through which pure and aesthetic realisations are found.
Luisa Köber's area of conflict lies between the beauty and the functionality of objects. She studied Industrial Design at the "Kunstakademie" in Stuttgart, at the Politecnico in Milan and studied at the Hochschule Ensci - Les Ateliers. She has worked several jobs in London and Belgium.
One year after her graduation she won the international "Taschen Competition" with her Master Project.
Since 2014 she is working as a freelance designer in Vienna.

For the exhibition chmara.rosinke present their designs similar to a stage design and react ironically to the temptation of design to present itself as purpose-free art than as functional design.

Exhbition by Dechem studio at Window Gallery
Dechem studio, an up- and-coming design duo from Prague, opened their exhibiton on Friday 13 December at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Office.
The two describe their designs and products as " Stories in Glass" - poetic moments that become things.
"Glass, [more] just like people or trees is perfectly capable of being shaped and formed .... " and although the glass, how dechem uses it is "solid as a rock ", is edit with impressive ease.
"Life is too short to surround ourselves with too many things . We believe in simplicity sprinkled with sugar and neatly arranged."
At the opening we present - if all goes well - the freshly printed "VIENNA DESIGN WEEK - Review"!
We look forward to your coming !
Show must go on!
During VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, the city becomes a platform and showcase of design. In cooperation with designers from all over the world, Viennese museums and companies, the festival shows different approaches to design. International but local, sets out to be this year´s [more] motto.
The seven year itch often implies change, even in the best and closest relationships and friendships. Director Tulga Beyerle is leaving the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK in order to devote herself to a new and exciting task. From 2014, Lilli Hollein heads the festival she co-founded as solely responsible director.
