That´s the way to the talk!
An idea is an brainwave, sometimes an intervention, perhaps an inspiration and occassionally presumes a flash of genius. This year´s laboratory revolves around this topic. The run-up involved gathering ideas from the designers in the Laboratory - some extremely promising, others [more] never realised, some rejected, or some we would have been better without. These ideas are exchanged for further development between the participants; finally, the original idea and new solution approaches will be presented next to each other. We are full of anticipation!
This time, it´s the turn of ZWUPP (AT) and Ola Mirecka (PL/UK)!
Upcoming Lab Talks (always at 6pm and always at the Festival Headquarters, Argentinerstraße 11):

Tradition vs. Modernity
Printing on paper is nothing new, but the technical options of printing/lasering are becoming increasingly diverse. A large selection of the finest paper and carton is on [more] show in the Fedrigoni showroom; as part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK this year two completely different printing technologies are on display: the traditional letterpress printing (The infinitive Factory, Graz) and modern laser technology (rausgebrannt, Vienna). As part of the show the designer Lukas Fliszar (100und1) presents outstanding and innovative applications for both processes.

Antoinette Bader wins RADO STAR PRIZE AUSTRIA 2013
The jury, consisted of Tulga [more] Beyerle (Director of Vienna Design Week), Lilli Hollein (Director of Vienna Design Week), Christoph Katzler (Numen / For Use designer) and Peter Rudolf (Rado Austria Brand Manager), selected the young Swiss designer with her project as winner and justified its decision as followed:
"There were quite equally good works in the short list. In this respect, our decision hasn´t been easily made. What had fascinated us the most about WOVEN GEARS was its contradiction - on the one hand the sensuous of this installation within a very technically oriented brand, on the other hand the technical side of the gears and its endlessly revolving wheel of time. More specifically is even its strong appeal to the outside. The perfect implementation of the concept, the strong visual impact and the chioce of material were qualitively high in the project WOVEN GEARS and have finally convinced us. "
The Rado Star Prize is endowed with € 5.000. In addition, the winner gets the opportunity to present his/her project at Vienna Design Week 2013.
