Tangible Traces - Dutch Architecture and Design in the Making

5.10.2008, 7pm

On the invitation of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI) presents some prominent Dutch positions from design and architecture with the exhibition Tangible Traces. The show, conceived as a contribution to the Sao Paulo Biennale 2007, is concerned with the significance of design and architecture in times of globalisation, standardisation and commercialisation. Works on show are by the architects' office Onix, the interior designer Frank Havermans, the textile designer Claudy Jongstra, the fashion designer Alexander van Slobbe and the industrial designer Hella Jongerius. The five positions consciously work with un-modern terms such as handcraft, tradition and context and thus open a dialogue between nostalgia and technological innovation and between modes of production and reception of design. The exhibition is designed by the Dutch industrial designer Jurgen Bey.
