VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Talks - Arts or Crafts?
9.10.2009, 1pm
The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Talks will take place in a lecture and discussion format developed by the Neigungsgruppe Design. This year’s topic “Arts or Crafts?” will deal with the tendency, particularly among new designers, to turn towards manual, “analogue” methods of production. Where does this interest come from and does it have any economic implications? What role does durability play in this context? Especially in Austria, where handcraftsmanship is the rule in the furniture branch, for example, it is exciting to learn from new approaches and to also seek synergies and possible potentialities for innovation in the areas bordering high tech. Lectures by international experts and practitioners, as well as two panel discussions on the subject, will serve to shed light on this wide-ranging topic.
