The firm Backhausen, founded in 1849 and former purveyor to the court continues today in masterly fashion to bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary design. The design duo KIM & HEEP were particularly fascinated by the factory in the Waldviertel: thousands of threads being wound, arranged according to colour, individually controlled, and woven in; everything in motion, vibrating, shaking, dancing. This poetic transformation in which threads become fabric is usually hidden from us but is palpable in the major installation ‘GENESIS’ created by KIM & HEEP for the Backhausen showroom. KIM & HEEP were also inspired by Backhausen’s new recycling line Returnity® – the dance strikes up anew.

The PASSIONSWEGE format, a core component of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, brings designers together with Vienna shops and manufacturers with on-the-spot experimental projects and interventions.

The resulting installations are all on show from 1.10. to 10.10. during normal opening hours in the business premises. A special reception takes place on the PASSIONSWEGE evenings in the presence of the designers.
