Patrycja Domanska at Tostmann Trachten

Patrycja Domanska Design Practice

30.9.–8.10.2011

Everyday dirndls, festive dirndls, blueprint linen and wool brocade – Tostmann is the firm of tailors of traditional Austrian dress founded in 1949 as a business run by two people near Attersee; it has become genuinely renowned in this traditional, quality fashion sector, also internationally.

High quality woven and printed fabrics, renewal within tradition, not forgetting exclusive production in its own tailoring workshops – these are the qualities that have made the name of the firm stand out. Though impressed by the “slow dress” mentality in the custom tailoring workshop, the Viennabased designer Patrycja Domanska nevertheless opted to bring a serial aspect into the Tostmann atelier. She constructed and built her own printing tool to generate what is probably an entirely new generation of traditional fabrics.
