THONET GmbH, Robert Stadler

4.10.2012, 4pm–6pm

For the first time the german based company Thonet is represented at Vienna Design Week and is proposing two projects. One of them referencing Viennese coffeehouse tradition, which is often associated with Thonet, in a pop-up café. Hence, this year's festival headquarters, the Gschwandner, will host a temporary cafe with chairs by Vienna-born and Paris-based designer Robert Stadler.

On Thursday, 04.10 at 16:00 Robert Stadler will be presenting his chair personally to the public.

With the 107 chair Robert Stadler follows the successful café and bistro tradition of Thonet furniture. The characteristic feature of the chair is the fragmented backrest that is both constructive and creative element. The narrow, curved back and its easy; the elegant look of the 107 directly awakens memories of the famous coffee house chair by Thonet, the 214.
That was exactly the intention of the Austrian, who lives in Paris designer, who understands the 107 as a contemporary reinterpretation of the most famous of all the classic chair. The 107 is ideal for furnishing restaurants and cafes, but also looks great in a private lounge or dining area.
"My purpose was to design a variation of the famous 214, which is based on the original idea: to provide an economically productive Thonet chair, "says Robert Stadler.

In authentic but contemporary coffee house atmosphere, visitors will have the opportunity to test the new 107 in exclusive advance before it will be officially presented in October at Orgatec in Cologne.
We would be delighted to welcome you.
