ATMOSPHERE: AN ILLUSTRATION OF A FAILED NEW THEORETICAL CONCEPT
Hermann Czech
26.9.–5.10.2014
Hermann Czech’s restaurant rooms of 1984 in the basement of Hildebrandt’s and Fischer’s Palais Schwarzenberg encroach upon the sphere of subjective impression, or “atmosphere”, which was not always applauded by the specialists.
But “atmosphere” cannot be the intention behind a design. It belongs to after-perception. After thirty years, there is an added effect produced by the interval of time. Lately, the rooms have remained unused and neglected. Atmosphere as such is not producible. (Czech)
In this effect of double distance now they become subject to an artistic (Heinz Frank) and architectural (Hermann Czech) intervention.
