An enchanting front garden on a side street in the 5th district is given the leading
role in a scenario staged with meticulous hands-on work and aesthetic awareness. Next to the neighboring, condemned house, a table stretches the entire length of the green strip. Placed at its end are improvised firing furnaces. For ceramic work, firing, and food. What took place in this semi-private setting for ten days was as banal as it was well-planned: Interested people from the
neighborhood, the festival public, and participants in the Caritas project Kompa formed functional cooking units, dried them on site, and then fired crockery, pots, and table ovens in the wood fire, giving them a matte, black surface.
And they cooked the whole time, parallel to the creative process – tea and Buchteln – sweet rolls – and recipe ideas from those dropping by. The project was acclaimed for its precision in design and execution, the eye for minimal
social processes and mechanisms and so won the Erste Bank ExtraVALUE Design Award 2016. Our warmest congratulations!
