FREDERICK KIESLER. LIFE VISIONS

MAK – Museum für angewandte Kunst

30.9.–2.10.2016

“Meant to be lived in.” – A headline from a newspaper article by the American-Austrian avant-garde luminary Friedrich Kiesler (1890–1965), which might be taken as the motto of the exhibition. This also applied particularly to the to-scale reconstruction of Kiesler’s monumental “City of Space”, on show for the first
time in Austria, which he made in 1925 for the Austrian pavilion at the Exposition
Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. With the
iconic “Endless House”, the “Correalistic Instrument”, and countless sketches, works, and models, the exhibition reflected the growing interest in Kiesler’s conceptual and holistic thinking and actions on the international art and creative scene.
