VIENNA DESIGN WEEK SAFARI
VIENNA DESIGN OFFICE, Villa Tugendhat
30.9.2016, 12pm–8.30pm
Architectural precision and conceptual stringency – this is what hit the attention in the tours through the Villa Tugendhat built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in
1929/1930, specially devised for the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The pun is on the word Tugend – virtue in German – and the virtue lies in the detail here – whether light switch or door knob, whether glass or marble front, whether cantilever or iconic Barcelona Chair.
This was the very thing that left a lasting impression on the public, who had travelled from Vienna to Brno. After comprehensive renovations and restorations, the original brilliance of this monument of modern architecture came into its own again in every nook and corner, in every detail, no matter how small. A veritable jewel and festival highlight, accompanied as ever in his usual charming way by audience favorite and architecture curator Oliver Elser. An entertaining bus tour for everyone, both specialist guests and the public.
