Just smoke and mirrors? Far from it. Proceeding from the thesis that advancing digitalization involves sensory detachment, Teresa Berger focused on the interplay of all the senses, the haptic and tactile experience, in her widely popular Urban Food & Design project: Her eight-piece series of tableware – such as a silicone membrane filled with smoke and a plate with an integrated loudspeaker – was intended to make new eating experiences and innovations in gastrophysics tangible. Most of the eating here was done by hand, part of the meticulous staging and intended to sharpen the participants’ consciousness of the food in the daily tastings. BEYOND TASTE – that meant mise en place as a ritual for all the senses, a table culture project that gibes with the focus of the Vienna Business Agency with its creative center departure.
