BURKART FURTENBACH with Albert Pattermann
BURKART FURTENBACH, Albert Pattermann, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
29.9.–6.10.2018
The intention of the Passionswege has always been bringing things that have proven their value from behind the scenes and placing them in unexpected new contexts. The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK found a veritable partner in crime for this endeavor in bagmaker Alexander Rippka. He recently brought the Viennese manufactory Albert Pattermann and all its expertise in the production of leather fashion accessories from the back courtyard. Now on display on Kaiserstraße, Rippka faced the challenge of working with relatively thick Tyrolean suede that the designers Hanna Burkart and Philipp Furtenbach brought back from their endless wanderings. Every two months, the couple moves into a new residence, frequently setting up in locations that weren’t originally intended to be living spaces. In the workshop established in 1931, where they dipped into the manufactory’s rich treasure chest of patterns, the two produced together with their host a unique rustic handbag for coming trips. Bon voyage!
