FROM THE ARCHIVES: CLASSICS, RARITIES, PROTOTYPES

Kohlmaier

28.9.–5.10.2018

The term archive doesn’t necessarily connote a dusty room, a fact illustrated by the fresh overview of precious furniture at this year’s VIENNA DESIGN WEEK: The fusion of contemporary design and traditional handicrafts has long been the focus of the family-owned Kohlmaier company, founded in 1884, which is an important part of the 7th district. The evolution of furniture creations is a red thread in its work. Years of experience and plenty of courage to take risks have produced discriminating products. This quest for perfection has also resulted in objects that were never realized. In 2018, the Kohlmaier brothers  searched their archives and surprised the audience with a mixture of beloved classics, prototypes that have never seen the light of day, and out-of-the-ordinary one-offs.
