If you’re familiar with the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, it should come as no surprise that the glass manufactory J. & L. Lobmeyr participated once again, in the festival’s twelfth year. Without a doubt, this long-established Viennese company, a treasure trove of excellence in glass, is one of its favorite locations. Surprising was that, for the first time, a pair of sculptors, Hanakam & Schuller, joined in a Passionswege tandem that could be described as a bull’s-eye in cooperative mode due to the outstanding quality of the mystical, secretive contribution at the interface of table and gaming culture. Proceeding from the idea of regarding a set table as an alchemistic experiment and the guests sitting around it as eager players of a party game, Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller, through the challenging craftsmanship of their installation dealing with the drinking vessel’s original form, transformed the table setting into a game board. Game on, J. & L. Lobmeyr!
