Japan meets the USA in Vienna’s Neubau district. Michael Turkiewicz’s DESIGN&ART gallery is as much part of the city’s design scene as ikebana belongs to the land of the rising sun. Surrounded by contemporary objects from around the globe, the ikebana artist Toru Watarai provided some insight into the traditional method of flower arrangement by creating spheric relationships between space, object, and plant at daily workshops. At the same time, products by the US ceramic artist Erik Haugsby were on display. This was a journey through different cultures, processing techniques, and design aesthetics.
