KUENG CAPUTO with Etui Fialka
Sarah Kueng & Lovis Caputo, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
Cases are used for storing valuable things. As metaphor for civil-society solidarity, KUENG CAPUTO and Etui Fialka dreamed up boxes to display medals earned for saving refugees. Production of the cases and the medals themselves was another expression of cooperative action. As part of the Passionswege, the Swiss designers Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo met Friedrich Fialka III, who cultivates his trade, its last master, in a workshop in the 7th district’s Schottenfeldgasse. This expertise has been passed down for generations. Without question, this unusual combination of craftsmanship from the fields of high-quality woodworking and bookbinding represents a treasure trove of knowledge and experience – which KUENG CAPUTO mined eagerly to send a joint signal for more humanity.
