Design from outer space? Long ago, the family-owned Kohlmaier company, founded in 1884, took on as its mission developing upholstered furniture in close cooperation with experts from the fields of architecture, design, and art. The artist Esther Stocker’s wrinkled planet, for example, is a sculpture that can also be used as a seat. Folded and creased textile surfaces manifest themselves as one-of-akind heavenly bodies with a unique topography that vary in size. As surreal monochrome objects, they also challenge our perception. Or, put briefly: The wrinkled planet folds and deforms ordered space and breaks with rigid geometry.
