Design from outer space? Long ago, the family-­owned Kohlmaier company, founded in 1884, took on as its mission developing upholstered furniture in close cooperation with experts from the fields of archi­tecture, design, and art. The artist Esther Stocker’s wrinkled planet, for example, is a sculpture that can also be used as a seat. Folded and creased textile surfaces manifest themselves as one­-of­-a­kind heav­enly bodies with a unique topography that vary in size. As surreal mono­chrome objects, they also challenge our perception. Or, put briefly: The wrinkled planet folds and deforms ordered space and breaks with rigid geometry.
