The artist Toni R. Toivonen, born in Helsinki in 1987, examines the duality of life and death, takes on the various aspects of existence. Beginning with painting, Toivonen began working with such media as oils and charcoal on canvas before developing a conceptual approach through experimentation: Between abstraction and realism, his latest works show impressions of decomposing animals on brass plates. The bodies are inscribed in the metallic background, leaving behind an aesthetic image that seems equally peaceful and dignified. In this solo exhibition, Toivonen’s work will be shown for the first time ever in Austria. Furthermore, the semidocumentary film “Heavy” by Theo Bat Schandorff, which portrays Toivonen’s “absurd” world, will be screened on two days. Recommended for viewers 16 and older.
