The exhibition CHANGING IDEAS marked the tenth anniversary of the “Class for Ideas in Graphic Design and Advertising” of the University of Applied Arts Vienna by attracting festival visitors to the Museumsquartier. Or, more specifically, to the designforum, where they were eloquently guided through the exhibition by the students themselves. Dedicated to the idea as a means of transformation, the show was impressively diverse in terms of subject, media, and execution. Hence, visitors could wander from project to project, immersing themselves in a world of completely contrasting and innovative ideas. One example of this was the obstacle app, which draws the attention of digital hikers to the presence and history of memorial stones in the pavement as they wander through the city on their smartphone screens. Similarly memorable was the Butt Rug — a doormat hand-woven from incorrectly discarded cigarette butts. And also the typography project “Twins”, a font, whose symbols express the subtle difference between Standard and Austrian German. The exhibition was accompanied by events and a series of lectures in which experts offered food for thought on the various subjects. Find out more at: klassefuerideen.at.
