HARDWARE – DESIGN FROM HALBZEUG
rauminhalt_harald bichler space & content
25.9.–3.10.2020
Every year, the opening cocktail party at rauminhalt_harald bichler during VIENNA DESIGN WEEK provides the local design scene with a memorable get together. So it was no surprise that the gallery also convinced visitors this year with its careful selection of a contemporary design position: Klemens Schillinger, another regular festival participant, presented auratic pieces of furniture and wall objects. For the Austrian designer, the term hardware refers to anonymous components that can be used in a variety of areas. And, in turn, the term ‘Halbzeug’ refers to primary materials in general: raw material, components, or the simplest semi-finished products. In the context of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Schillinger investigated the aesthetic and functional qualities of the Halbzeug: For this exhibition, he specially created new objects, in which he self-evidently combined constructive and aesthetic components – pipe clips, cast angles, and perforated metal – in a way that carefully ensured that these starting materials remained visible.
