MY MEIDLING – THE PARTICIPATIVE CLIMATE-NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT
EIGENSINN
25.9.–4.10.2020
VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2020 offered a number of festival visitors the opportunity to discover Meidlinger Markt for themselves. The project MY MEIDLING was one of many to take place directly on the market, which bustled during the festival due to the autumn sunshine. In a specially created temporary garden in Rosaliagasse one could rest awhile, sit in the sun, and chat with the initiator about the neighborhood, its past, and its future. Sigrid Mayer (EIGENSINN) is a local resident as well as an active user and sensitive observer of the neighborhood around Meidlinger Markt. During DESIGN WEEK she addressed the problem of the lack of green space in the city, which became particularly serious during the lockdown in spring 2020. For the people of Meidling, most of whom live in (small) homes without balconies or gardens, the only places in the local area where they could find the desperately needed fresh air were often empty car parks or green spaces with limited visitor appeal. This is why Mayer and her participative climate-neighborhood project, which already has the active support of a number of Meidling residents, are fighting for the creation of sustainably designed and user-oriented public living space. This could include newly planted building façades — during VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Mayer exhibited concrete concepts, plans, and visualizations. In addition to this, MY MEIDLING included a series of talks related to the subject of greening the city. Find out more at: meimeidling.wien
