The kitchen table at which the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK was founded 15 years ago may have been forgotten but the three individuals who were seated around it now run well-known museums: Tulga Beyerle the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, Thomas Geisler the Kunstgewerbemuseum of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, and – since very recently – Lilli Hollein the MAK in Vienna.

The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2021 brings the three founders together to mark the 15th anniversary of their festival. The positions and the places of work may have changed but the issues remain the same: How can one communicate design, inspire more people to address its complex questions, and initiate forward-looking projects while still retaining the connection with historic objects?
