POST-APOCALYPTIC KAFFEEHAUS
VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
24.9.–3.10.2021
Vienna without the Viennese or the end of the world that, as Karl Kraus pointed out, would happen with a ten-year delay in the city: All jokes aside, the post-apocalyptic coffeehouse of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is a collection of poetic interventions that invite us to imagine what remains of our everyday rituals when the world around us changes. The collection brings together a whole series of positions that reflect an empathetic designer’s perspective: radical, humorous, intuitive or conceptual, crude or finely differentiated. And all the objects share the fact that, rather than wallowing in a cynical desire for catastrophe, they focus upon what we are fond of and upon devising and creating the new.
With works by: Onka Allmayer-Beck, Michael Anastassiades mit J. & L. Lobmeyr, KIM+HEEP, studio högl borowski, MADAME Architects, Anna Paul, Peter Sandbichler mit LDDE, Katrina Schneider, studionero, and Daniel Stuhlpfarrer
The pieces in the collection curated by Gabriel Roland are available at adorno.dk. With the friendly support of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA (WKO) and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture, Civil Service and Sport.
