A “Torbalon” – the name is a combination of “torba” (“bag”) and “balon” (“water container”) – is both a bag and a warning. It is made from a five-liter water container and comes from the Serbian city of Zrenjanin, which has gained unwanted notoriety due to its polluted water. Since 2014, the residents have had to meet their water needs by buying water containers. With their project, the designers Radmila and Nikola Trebovac want to draw attention to the fact that the city government has invested a lot of money in prestige projects during the past two decades while continuously failing to look for a solution to this water supply problem.
Available in the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK shop in the streetfront space at Esterházygasse 22. The project is shown in cooperation with Wienwoche.
