This duo will be familiar to attentive festival visitors: As a continuation of their Passionswege dialog from last year, the designer Anna Zimmermann and the traditional Vienna company Bakalowits have produced a limited series of sculptural hooks and lamps. The series not only transforms the curved metal structures, which the former supplier to the imperial court otherwise uses as constructional elements in its chandeliers, into autonomous accessories, but also sheds light on the all-too-rarely regarded skills that the manufacturers of crystal chandeliers demonstrate in their work with steel, iron, or brass. Because, what did we read in the program of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2022? “Without metalworking expertise, even the most beautiful crystal would be hanging in thin air!” Each of the objects on show is produced in Vienna and is – due to the manufacturing process – unique.
