Hanakam & Schuller Studio

Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller are a German-Austrian art duo with a studio in Vienna. Their work demonstrates an interest in objects that are hybrids between art, design or everyday objects. Using various AI image generators, they create representations of stereotyped occupational groups in the style of rococo porcelain figures. The typologies of these historical reference objects - representations of the "common" people in noble materials for the elites - are then digitally translated into contemporary precarious and marginalized occupational groups. They raise questions concerning classism, salon culture, arts and crafts, and everyday technology.
