“Exit through the gift shop!”, is the usual instruction in museums, where classic works of art are offered for sale en masse on souvenirs such as mugs and bags. “Access through the Werkshop!“, is the instruction here, with its direct access to applied art and design:

ARTist, the Alumni Association of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, joins up with the Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab (AIL) to present selected works and Supersachen (super objects) by graduates, which can be acquired on the spot at affordable prices. Handcraft and skills meet curiosities produced by emerging talents. And, at the heart of everything, is exchange. This is why the Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab (AIL) and its Café Exchange can be found in the iconic banking hall of Otto Wagner’s Postal Savings Bank. The former setting of the counters across which currencies and cash were exchanged now brings sectors together and opens up the university and its wide variety of content to the public. It’s all about exchange! Exhibiting graduates are present on 30.9. from 4pm.

The Werkshop is a pilot project. In the future, it should adopt a variety of forms as it becomes a permanent addition to the University of Applied Arts.
