MONEO
New Design University (NDU) St. Pölten
20.–29.9.2024
Vienna, Kyoto, and Münster! The group exhibition MONEO, which is taking place in these three locations, brings together the results of a cooperative academic project involving the New Design University (NDU) (Graphic and Information Design Course), Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts (Department of Media), and Münster School of Design: On the basis of the novel “Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus”, which was written by the British author Mary Shelley and published in 1818, students from the three educational institutions developed publications, print materials, fonts, and animations that not only react to Shelley’s book in highly individual ways, but also use it as a basis for addressing aesthetic, historical, ethical, and social issues. One special focus of the show is our personal perception and definition of monstrosity: The Latin term “moneo” means, among other things, “to warn”, “to remind”, and “to inspire”. The exhibition uses this trio as a means of pointing to the future, quoting the past, and offering a snapshot of the here and now.
Parallel to MONEO, the New Design University (NDU) is showing the installation CRAFT WITH CARE and the exhibition SOCIETY OF INSECTS ... AND US.
