CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT – PERSPECTIVES ON DESIGN WITHIN HISTORY

VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Andreas Fogarasi, Sam Jacob, Johanna Pichlbauer, Sophie Stackmann

29.9.2025, 5.30pm

Nowadays, design and architecture are often presented as either timeless necessities or hyper-ephemeral trends. However, like any cultural expression, both disciplines are historically interconnected and conditioned in many ways. From postmodern obsession with historicity to various forms of monument preservation, the participants in this discussion bring together different perspectives on how design and architecture shape history, deal with it, and become part of it.

With: Andreas Fogarasi (Artist), Sam Jacob (Sam Jacob Studio, University of Applied Arts Vienna, Institute of Architecture (I oA)), and Dr. Sophie Stackmann (Heritage Conservation and Building in Existing Structures, Institute of Art History, Building Research and Heritage Conservation, TU Wien)

Moderation: Maik Novotny
