How can color design be both economically and ecologically sustainable? The SYMPOSIUM BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA – WIENER FARBEN – this year’s focus topic at Biofabrique Vienna – explores this question in depth. Biofabrique Vienna, an initiative of the Vienna Business Agency, promotes bio-based and circular practices in design and production. The aim is to strengthen Vienna as a location for bioregional design methods – through knowledge transfer, cooperation and bold experiments. Since 2025, the focus has been on developing colors from food waste streams. The symposium, part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2025, is dedicated to the challenges and potential of producing natural dyes and their use in bioregional design practice, education, and business and offers experts, designers, entrepreneurs, and students a platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Together, they are shaping a more colorful and regenerative future.
