Stadtarbeit 2025

Vermehrt Schönes!

With the format Stadtarbeit, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, supported by the Erste Bank sponsorship program – Vermehrt Schönes! – and in cooperation with Caritas Wien, has created an internationally respected framework for the implementation of social design ideas.

Archives for the future!

In the run-up to the festival, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK launched an open call for ideas, concepts and projects that view the city as a living archive. The current edition of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK’s social design format, Stadtarbeit, encourages the preservation of knowledge, memories, and narratives through design and makes them accessible to all.
In walking tours, workshops, and other public events at this year’s Festival Headquarters, the former University of Economics (Alte WU), the Startgalerie musa, and other public spaces, visitors are invited to document Vienna’s unique characteristics with the help of urban wood, sound, and stamps and create archives for the future. The three projects were selected by a jury and together form the eleventh edition of Stadtarbeit. With an implementation budget, the format enables the projects to be realized as part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The selected projects will also be awarded the Erste Bank Social Design Prize during the festival.

Jury members: Lena Rücker (MA 18 – Urban Development and Urban Planning), Hannah Horn and Luca Hierzenberger (klub für echtes und erdachtes (klee), designers and winners of the Erste Bank Social Design Prize 2024), Clemens Foschi (Caritas, Archdiocese of Vienna), Ruth Goubran (Erste Bank), Julia Habarda and Gabriel Roland (VIENNA DESIGN WEEK)
