Anniversary Tour

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will embark on a European Anniversary Tour in 2026. At selected design events across Europe, the festival team — together with local partners — will create temporary interventions and informal meeting formats in off-locations, inviting exchange, networking and offering a preview of the anniversary edition in Vienna.
The Anniversary Tour aims to strengthen existing international collaborations, initiate new partnerships and carry the spirit, curiosity and openness of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK far beyond Vienna.
Through this hybrid format, the project explores new forms of cultural exchange, travel, and temporary presence, while offering an informal preview of the upcoming 20th edition of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK (25 September – 4 October 2026). The tour aims to strengthen international collaborations, create new encounters across the European design community, and extend the festival’s curatorial approach beyond Vienna.

VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Anniversary Tour at World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 with Tisch 7
Fourth Stop:Horsing Around – Don’t Hold Back

As part of its 20th anniversary, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK embarks on an Anniversary Tour across Europe. Through temporary interventions, collaborations, and unexpected encounters, the festival makes stops at selected locations — one of them being Frankfurt am Main as part of World Design Capital 2026.
At the invitation of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, the Viennese collective Tisch 7 takes over Frankfurt’s iconic bar Gute Stute for one evening. Under the title Horsing Around – Don’t Hold Back, an intervention unfolds between installation, social space, object, and performance.
A Trojan horse is coming to Frankfurt — not to conquer the city, but to smuggle young Viennese design into it. Selected objects from Gute Stute were brought to Vienna, transformed by Tisch 7, and returned to Frankfurt as hybrid artefacts. Throughout the evening, these objects are activated, used, altered, and collectively experienced.
Somewhere between irony and sincerity, a temporary situation emerges in which design becomes visible as a social process — shaped by appropriation, interaction, and shared experience. The evening is complemented by food, drinks, music, and spatial interventions.
Tisch 7 is an interdisciplinary collective based in Vienna consisting of Valentin Bauer, Lenz Dreher, Theresa Pöschl, Valentina Lian Sturn, and Leon Theodor. Working at the intersection of design, art, and space, the collective develops projects that deliberately resist easy categorisation. Their practice is site-specific, playful, and process-oriented, focusing less on finished objects and more on transformation, use, and collective experience.
Also joining the event is Frankfurt-based designer Kai Linke, who will present in Frankfurt for the first time the project he developed together with Schnitzstube Stadlhofer as part of the Passionswege programme at VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2025.

Second stop: VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Anniversary Tour in Milan

As part of its 20th anniversary, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK stops in Milan during Fuorisalone and, together with Viennese designer Laura Karasinski, invites guests to Bar Laura. Known for her distinct approach to hosting and her strong network in Milan, Karasinski creates the framework for an intervention that moves deliberately between social space and design format.
For one evening, a Milanese bar becomes a temporary place of exchange: an aperitivo as a curated setting that activates the international network of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and makes design tangible in its communicative and connective dimension.
While Fuorisalone is shaped by speed and hyper-commercial dynamics, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK sets a conscious counterpoint — with an intervention rooted in proximity, conversation, and hospitality. With a sense of Viennese ease and quiet confidence, Bar Laura subtly integrates itself into Milan’s urban fabric, opening up space for encounters beyond conventional exhibition formats.

To celebrate its 20th edition, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK embarks on an Anniversary Tour exporting its unique spirit to selected design events across Europe. The first stop: Collectible Brussels, in collaboration with the Vienna-based curatorial duo Bureau Fomo. Together, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and Bureau Fomo invite you to an evening featuring limited-edition souvenirs and unique design objects. Curated by Bureau Fomo the event brings together presentation, exchange, and relaxed socialising — with a small bar serving Austrian drinks (Weißer Spritzer! home-made Schnaps!) and a typically Viennese relaxed socialising.
