Debut

An anniversary is an occasion for looking back and reflecting, but it should also be a chance to look ahead to the next generation: For its 20th edition, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is focusing more than ever on design education both at home and abroad through its Debut format. Beyond marketing messages, Debut centers on the fundamental direction of selected educational institutions, their goals, and the talents and visions they foster. The format serves both as an international networking platform and as an independent experimental laboratory for emerging design.

Four groups of students – from the Product Design and Communication Design program at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), the Lycée des Arts et Métiers from this year’s GAST partner country, Luxembourg, the Regenerative Design Lab at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and the Design Department at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences – have collaborated with their instructors to develop projects specifically for the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The results range from birthday cakes and party serenades to regenerative futures and encounters beyond the human realm.
