Moving Materials

Swiss watchmaker Rado is known for the unique and visionary design of its watches and its use of revolutionary materials. The brand is a relevant and dynamic player on the international design scene and is particularly proud of its collaboration with international designers. As a long-standing general partner, Rado launched its own festival format in 2025 in collaboration with the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK: Moving Materials.

What has connected Rado and the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK since the beginning of their partnership is the promotion of emerging design talents. Building on the success of recent years, six motion designers were given the opportunity from March through August to present their animations as part of the RADO MOVING MATERIALS competition, produced specifically for the video wall at the Rado boutique in Vienna – this time on the theme of “Architecture of Time”. The entries explore temporal structures, rhythm, transformation, and the visual representation of movement.

At the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, all six episodes will be shown again both at the Festival Headquarters and at the Rado Boutique at Kärntner Straße 18. The designer with the best animation will receive prize money and a watch from Rado.
