With the format Stadtarbeit, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK has created an internationally respected framework for the implementation of social design ideas. The interventions – many of which take place in public spaces – are being carried out with support from Erste Bank’s sponsorship program and in collaboration with Caritas Vienna.
 
Our City Celebrates
In the run-up to its 20th-anniversary edition, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK launched an open call for submissions of ideas, concepts, and projects that explore the role of celebration. In the form of garage parties, rituals celebrating darkness, inclusive club experiences, and other free events in Hietzing and throughout the city, the three selected projects invite participants to develop new forms of collective joy, social reverence, and urban subversion – as long as it’s festive!

The three projects were selected by a jury and together form the currentz edition of Stadtarbeit. With an implementation budget, the format enables the projects to be realized as part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The selected projects will also be awarded the Erste Bank Social Design Prize during the festival.
