TWISTED TALES

Reimagining fairy tales – for a world in flux

Step into the world of classic fairy tales – with a twist.

At Twisted Tales, stories don’t remain frozen in the past. We retell some of the world’s most familiar tales – placing at their core what truly matters: love, courage, and empathy.

Familiar characters are given new voices, new roles, and new dreams.
Girls write their own stories. Boys follow their hearts instead of predetermined paths. Beauty is redefined – and challenges are no longer solved by magic, but through solidarity, kindness, and the courage to create change.

Here you’ll meet Cinda, Alen, Bianca, Verena – and many more protagonists of a new generation. As different as their stories may be, they are united by one central question:
What if we could retell the fairy tales we know?

From Meera of the Coral Sea to Cinda Real to Little Red Riding Hood’s Second Encounter with the Wolf – each story opens up a new perspective on our present.

Rethinking storytelling

Twisted Tales is part of TECHTALES, an EU-funded project that reimagines storytelling through technology and creativity.

Together with partners across Europe, we develop new ways of telling stories:
Children become authors themselves, questioning familiar narratives and creating their own versions of classic tales. The result: AR-enhanced books, exhibitions, and multilingual audio stories.

These stories become reflections of our time:
The Little Mermaid fights for climate justice.
The Ugly Duckling becomes a story of migration and belonging.
And Pocahontas? Read and find out.

A European collaboration

We are excited to be part of TECHTALES, an inspiring EU-funded project that explores the future of storytelling through the power of technology and creativity.

It’s a close collaboration of seven partners from six European countries — Institute for Transmedia Design (Slovenia), @artrebel9 (Slovenia), @flux_design_network (Montenegro), @arttransparent (Poland), @grupa_hajde_da (Serbia), IAAC - @fablabbcn (Spain) and us @viennadesignweek (Austria) — we’re thrilled to bring this creative journey to life.

TECH TALES is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe programme. The implementation of the project in Vienna is carried out by VIENNA DESIGN OFFICE, and co-financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport.
