Biofabrique Vienna Challenges 2026 der Wirtschaftsagentur Wien

Do you have expertise in textile and clothing technology, textile design and fashion? Or do you have skills in design, material innovation, colours and research?

In its latest edition, Biofabrique Vienna, run by the Vienna Business Agency, is focusing on the production of ‘Viennese colours’: bioregional, natural dyes made from unavoidable food waste and invasive plants from Vienna. Now these dyes are to be put into practical use. Apply by 14 April for one of the two Biofabrique Vienna Challenges organised by the Vienna Business Agency.

The winning projects from the challenges will be exhibited at Biofabrique Vienna at Nordwestbahnhof and presented from 25 September to 4 October 2026 as part of the Urban Food & Design programme in cooperation with VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. This joint initiative demonstrates how urban resources can be transformed into sustainable solutions for a climate-resilient city.
Depending on the challenge, the winners will receive up to €7,500 in funding to support the implementation of their projects.

Apply by 14 April!

1. COLOURS AT WORK

What does the workwear of bioregional designers look like? Design and produce functional workwear for the teams of Biofabrique Vienna and Vienna Design Week using the “Wiener Farben” dyes. The garments should make materiality visible and embody the attitude of a new design practice—circular, research-driven, and bio-based.

2. APPLIED COLOURS

Which further applications are conceivable for the ”Wiener Farben”? Experiment with the “Wiener Farben” and demonstrate their potential applications in the design field in the form of an installation at Biofabrique Vienna at the Nordwestbahnhof.
