Felzl

Felzl

Felzl is one of the last artisan bakeries that still produces its wares in the heart of Vienna. The family of outlets of the company run by Georg Oelschlägel and his team comprises six bakery-cafés in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th districts, with the two locations in Felzl’s home district of Neubau and the one in Alsergrund also having bread vending machines that offer products baked that day at reduced prices outside opening hours. Felzl’s bakery is located in Schottenfeldgasse. It has been run by the master baker and confectioner Christoph Blamauer since September 2023.

The philosophy of the high-quality bakery Felzl is rooted in respectfully using regional raw materials and offering a second chance to unsold food. It bakes with grain from sustainable agriculture – by hand, during the night, and, hence, fresh every day. Its homemade starter and sour doughs rest for up to 18 hours, which allows aromas to develop optimally and special breads to be made that have a longer shelf-life. In addition to this, all day-old brown bread is processed into crumbs using the residual heat from the steam tube oven and reused in the dough for making new bread.
