Jólan van der Wiel

The Dutchman Jólan van der Wiel, born in 1984, is a multi-disciplinary designer who studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and since 2011 has operated his own design studio in Amsterdam. In his artistic praxis, he places great significance on the working material and in addition often infuses playful aspects of natural phenomena into his designs. This results in new materials, as well as unique objects and machines. For instance his prize-winning Gravity Stool is part of the Vitra Design Museum collection and the Bauhaus Archive. His works are regularly on show in the leading museums, including the Design Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Jólan van der Wiel’s enthusiasm for cooperative ventures provided the impulse for interdisciplinary projects in the fields of fashion and architecture.
