The society for science-based art was founded in February 2012 with the aim of creating a network for the development, research, and accessibility of artworks, design objects, methods, procedures, and materials with biological connotations. The platform provides for reflections on this general theme in exhibitions, discussions, lectures, workshops, and publications. Numerous activities on various levels have come to fruition in cooperation with the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Open Science, the FH Campus Vienna, the Department of Biotechnology, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences – Department of Nanobiotechnology, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Institute of Toxicology and Genetics, the Waag Society, and Biofaction.
