A WALK TO SCHÖNBRUNN / RESTORATION OF ARTISANAL CRAFTS

Unsichtbares Handwerk

  • Guided Tour: 29.9.2026, 8am–10am

Children's Museum Schönbrunn

A stroll through the Meidlinger Viereckl brings to life the crafts of the past and present.

What is the history of craftsmanship in Vienna? And what role does it play today? For several years now, the research project UNSICHTBARES HANDWERK has been dedicated to tracing the craft businesses and their workshops in Vienna that are increasingly fading into obscurity. The walking tours offer insights into crafting practices and artistic creation and provide an opportunity to witness work processes firsthand, experience materials up close, and reflect on the future of craftsmanship in conversation with the artisans.

The walk on 29.9. begins in the State Rooms of Schönbrunn Palace. There, visitors will have the unique opportunity to take part in a guided tour of selected restoration projects before the crowds arrive. The tour then continues through the Meidlinger Viereckl, a historic courtyard within the palace grounds, to Textilrestaurierung Neugebauer GmbH.
