ARCH ON WALK 1: HAUS WITTGENSTEIN AND THE RABENHOF
ARCH ON TOUR
- Führung: 26.9.2024, 2pm–4.30pm
HAUS WITTGENSTEIN [MEETING POINT]
The tour led by Marion Kuzmany connects two architectural icons in the Focus District Landstraße, both of which date from the mid-1920s. While moving through the spaces of Haus Wittgenstein, the group learns some fascinating facts about the special constructional geometry and remarkable minimalist details of this flawless and, for Vienna, rare example of classical modernism. The second stop then introduces participants to the Rabenhof, which was built as part of the housing program of Red Vienna. With its many residential and garden courtyards and distinctive gateways, passageways, and staircases, as well as the associated theater, the Rabenhof is one of the most fascinating products of the hundred-year history of public housing in Vienna.
Program:
Haus Wittgenstein (Paul Engelmann, Ludwig Wittgenstein, 1926–28)
Rabenhof (Hermann Aichinger, Heinrich Schmid, 1925–28), and Rabenhof Theater (renovation of the audience area: Peter Achhorner, 2008)
A binding reservation must be made in advance at viennadesignweek.reservix.at
Please be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start of the tour.
