A guided tour offers a glimpse into one of the city’s most remarkable residential projects: the Sargfabrik.
 

In the mid-1980s, a group of dedicated individuals dreamed of creating a housing cooperative that would collectively accommodate diverse lifestyles and cultural opportunities. The vision of an open and self-defined way of living together became a reality: what began as a social experiment evolved into a vibrant urban housing project with a cultural and political mission. As a glimpse into the city’s future, the project organized as a nonprofit association now consists of a lively community featuring a cultural center, a seminar house, a bathhouse, a café-restaurant, a playground, a rooftop garden, and many other communal spaces and facilities. As part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, this remarkable residential project is opening its doors and offering a guided tour of the grounds, during which participants will gain insights into and information about the history of the site, the distinctive architecture by the firm BKK-3, and the organization of the project and the community.
