Basso – alto, here – there, full – empty: The bar on Milan’s Via Plinio is not only a reference point for Italian cocktail culture, but also for the international design scene. Just like Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone (as in, the Milan furniture fair and its parallel program), the circus surrounding Bar Basso is as much a cliché as it is a necessity. Imitation and parody are impossible and inevitable.

In this sense, BAR ALTO has to take refuge on the first floor and make do with a car repair shop instead of a roundabout. Social conditions are also reversed here: The drinks for this stationary tour to one of the most desirable destinations in the design world are prepared by the director. At least there will be crowds where the Salettl once stood in the garden of the “Zur grünen Weintraube” inn.

The BAR ALTO can only be accessed via stairs. The ticket price includes a Negroni cup from FRANZI.IST from the Design Everyday EDITION #2 from 2022 as well as drinks.
