Alliances for bioregional design!

How do new materials, new value chains, and new forms of collaboration emerge? At the BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA NETWORK DAY, key players from the creative industries, industry, research, and government come together to share experiences, learn from one another, and initiate new collaborations. Three development tracks at Biofabrique Vienna offer insight into their work: Wiener Fliese (Viennese tile), Wiener Farben (Viennese colors), and a potential new project focused on developing a bio-based substitute for the thermoplastic polystyrene, offering countless product properties. Following these presentations, open ask-me-anything sessions will allow participants to discuss questions regarding scaling, certification, production, governance, or network building directly with the project teams.

The day is dedicated not only to the transfer of knowledge but also to a multisensory experience of the raw materials. This allows participants to experience firsthand that new material cultures arise not only through information but also through direct sensory experience. At the same time, it raises the question of how this changes the role of design.

What does design mean when materials change or cannot be fully reproduced? How does variation become part of the design? And what happens when products are designed not only for standardization but also for circularity or a conscious approach to obsolescence?

The BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA NETWORK DAY invites participants to explore these questions together and forge new alliances for a sustainable material culture. Participation is free, registration kindly requested.
